The UAE has introduced a new system for “unemployment insurance”.
Dubai Vista Estate brings you the latest news of the week, the first unemployment insurance in the UAE.
As of October 11, the Ministry of Human Resources and Empowerment announced the launch of the unemployment insurance scheme. This brand new system will be reserved for government and private sector jobs.
The ministry said, “This is a social security scheme. It ensures the continuation of a decent life for Emiratis and resident employees during their period of unemployment. While also reducing the risks for businesses.”
Here are the laws put in place to support this new system: individuals benefiting from it will receive their allowance monthly, this allowance is calculated at 60% of the employee’s salary, it cannot exceed AED 20,000 per month, this period is defined over 3 months. And the insured must have an employment history of 1 year.
This law will be benefited by federal public sector and private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates.
The people who will not receive this benefit are:
- domestic helpers
- part-time employees
- minors, i.e. persons under the age of 18
- Finally, retirees who receive a pension and have found a new job.
If the worker has been dismissed for behavioral reasons, then he/she will not receive this allowance. This benefit will stop when the individual has found a new job.
